Whisk the dry ingredients. Grab a bowl and a whisk and combine baking soda, flour, baking powder, and salt.
Whisk the wet ingredients. In a different bowl, whisk sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla together. Once that is mixed well, add in the buttermilk and whisk it in too.
Combine the ingredients. Pour wet ingredients into bowl of your dry ingredients and fold them together with a spatula. Add in the chocolate chips and fold them in. Don't overmix. (The batter is going to be thick and may have some lumps in it - this is okay!)
Preheat your griddle. I love cooking pancakes on a griddle. Preheat your griddle to 350 degrees. You can also use a frying pan on the stove, too. Add oil to your griddle and pour the pancake batter on it, once it is hot. I use a ⅓ cup measuring spoon to keep them all the same size.
Cooking your pancakes. Don't flip pancakes until you see small bubbles forming and settling on the surface of batter. This will take about 2-3 minutes. Once you see bubbles settling, flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes of time.
Serve. Serve with toppings of your choice. I used fresh cream, strawberries and honey.
