This Peda Recipe makes instant Peda that you make in microwave. The Best Part is you can make it start to finish within 15 minutes.
This is a very popular Indian Sweet that is made during festivities like Diwali, Dusshera, Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi and more.
Usually this sweet in made with khoya (milk solids), but today we are making it with dry milk (milk powder). Now if you don't want to spend hours in the kitchen but still want to impress your family, this recipe is for you.

Ingredients you will need:
You will only need three basic ingredients to make this recipe. Then there are numerous flavorings to choose from. You can make these chocolate flavored, rose flavored, kesar (saffron) flavored or even as flavors of paan.
Today I have added cardamom to flavor mine. Lets check out what you will need to make it.
Milk Powder: It is also called as Dry Milk. Use full fat milk powder to make this mixture for a rich tasting sweet. Do not reach for non-fat milk powders here as the texture of your final product won't be the same. If you find it hard to find full fat powder in super centers, try Indian Grocery stores.
Condensed Milk: You will need a can for this recipe. You can also make your own Condensed Milk using just three simple ingredients- Milk, sugar and a pinch of baking soda.
Butter/Ghee: We will use around 2 tablespoons of fat to add richness to this sweet. Butter will also add to the flavor and will prevent the mixture from sticking and burning as it cooks.
Cook it in Microwave or Stove Top:
I have made them in microwave but you can easily cook this mixture over stove top too. To cook the mixture on stove top- in a wide and heavy bottom pan, melt butter and add milk powder and condensed milk.
Stir continuously and cook for about 10-12 minutes or till the mixture comes together and starts leaving the sides of pan. Turn flame off once the mixture is ready. Add flavoring of choice, allow the mixture to cool down a bit so you can handle it.
Shape and decorate them as desired!
How to make this recipe:
In a microwave safe bowl, melt butter/ghee. Add milk powder and condensed milk to the bowl. Give the mixture a quick stir and microwave in small increments.
Keep stirring in between each increment and microwave the mixture till it thickens considerably.
When the mixture turns non sticky, add cardamom powder and give the mixture a good mix. If using a peda press, roll a ball out of mixture. Place that ball of mixture in the peda press and create shapes of your choice.
Alternatively you can make small round balls and flatten them slightly. Decorate their tops with slivered nuts and press them in so that they stick.
Storing Instructions:
You can easily store them at room temperature for 1-2 days. For a longer storage, I suggest storing them in refrigerator covered tightly at all times. Allow them to come to room temperature before enjoying!
Tips to make perfect peda sweet:
- Number one tip would be cook the mixture in small increments to avoid it from getting burnt. If you are cooking it on stove top, use a non-stick pan. Keep the flame low-medium and stir continuously to avoid the mixture from sticking..
- Do not over cook this mixture. Only cook till it thickens and gets non-sticky.
- If you wish to add flavorings other than cardamom or saffron, add them when the mixture has cooled down. Like add rose water or vanilla after the mixture cools down.
- Only opt for full fat milk powder and full fat condensed milk for bast taste and flavor.

Peda Recipe
Equipment
- 1 Microwave safe bowl (large)
- 1 Whisk/Spatula to stir
- 1 Peda Pressing equipment (optional)
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons Butter/Ghee (clarified butter)
- 1 ¾ Cups Dry Milk/Milk Powder (unsweetened, full fat)
- 1 Can Sweetened Condensed Milk
- ½ teaspoon Cardamom Powder
Instructions
- Melt 1 tablespoon butter/ghee in microwave. Add and mix condensed milk and full fat milk powder using a whisk or spatula.
- Heat this mixture for about 30 seconds and give it a quick stir again. Heat up for another 30 seconds.
- Now quickly stir it again and place the bowl back in the microwave to cook it more. Let it cook for another minute. Take the bowl out of microwave carefully using mittens if required since the bowl will be hot.
- Add cardamom powder and another tablespoon of butter/ghee. and give it one more stir. Cook for one more minute in 30 seconds increment. Stir in between each interval.
- At this point you will notice the mixture has thickened considerably. Allow to cool it down for a bit. Try to shape the mixture into ball. If you are able to make a ball out of it and it doesn't stick, the mixture is ready to make pedas.
- If you find the mixture to be sticky, cook it in the microwave again in 15-30 seconds increments till the mixture thickens a bit more and isn't sticky any longer.
- Once the mixture is ready, shape into pedas with your hands or using a peda press. Top with topping of your choice and enjoy!
